Amazing unfinished portrait

Oh my word, I was so pleased when I found this. The gentleman has such a characterful face and is really well painted… but it was never finished! It makes it far more interesting to me.. why wasn’t it finished.. who was he .. did he fall out with the artist??? A real quirky piece that would look fab anywhere. The canvas has a couple of small tears and there is a bit of foxing .. but that all adds to its history.
